The short version: FlipStudy keeps your decks on your iPhone. It doesn't collect your data, doesn't track you, and sends nothing to us. There are no accounts. Translating cards, and the smart features in the optional FlipStudy Pro — making cards, writing definitions, and reading a scanned page — run on your device. If the iPhone is signed in to iCloud, your decks sync through your own private iCloud, never to us. A cloud translator is used only if a grown-up turns it on with their own Google or Microsoft key.
This policy applies to the FlipStudy flashcard app for iPhone (listed on the App Store as FlipStudy: Flashcards), published by Methodical Enterprises LLC ("we," "us").
Nothing. FlipStudy has no user accounts and no sign-in, and it never contacts a server of ours. We never receive your decks, cards, answers, recordings, or any information about how you use the app. If you email us, we receive only what you choose to send, and use it only to answer you.
Your decks and cards, your study progress (which cards are due, and how many you reviewed each day for your streak and daily goal), your settings, and the colour and icon you pick are stored on your iPhone. Settings always stay on the device. Your decks and progress leave it only through features you control: the iCloud sync described below, your own iCloud device backup, or a deck you deliberately share.
With FlipStudy Pro, Type a Subject, Scan a Page, and writing definitions (in Add Words, or for a single card) use Apple Intelligence, Apple's on-device language model. The subject you type, the text read from your page, and the words you add are processed on your device. Nothing is sent to us. Without Pro, these features are simply not available; everything else in FlipStudy works the same.
You can fill a card's back with a translation, and with FlipStudy Pro, new language decks are translated for you. By default this uses Apple's on-device translator. The first time you use a language, iOS may ask to download it; the translation itself runs on your device. No translation text goes over the internet unless a grown-up turns on a cloud translator, described next.
A parent can choose Google Translate or Microsoft Translator instead of Apple's translator, using their own account with that company.
If you practice saying answers out loud, iOS asks permission for FlipStudy to use the microphone and speech recognition. Your speech is recognized on your device when your iPhone supports that language on the device; for a language it doesn't, iOS sends the audio to Apple's speech recognition service, under Apple's privacy policy. FlipStudy does not record or keep your voice — it uses only the recognized words to suggest a grade, and nothing is sent to us.
Answers are read aloud with Apple's built-in speech voices on your device.
Scan a Page uses the camera, or Apple's photo picker if you choose a photo instead. With the photo picker, only the photo you pick is given to FlipStudy; the app never sees the rest of your library and does not ask for photo library access. The text on the page is read on your device, and only the cards you keep are saved — not the picture. Nothing is sent to us.
If you turn on the daily reminder, iOS asks permission to show notifications, and FlipStudy schedules them on your device to say how many cards are ready. There is no push server of ours. The Home Screen and Lock Screen widget shows how many cards are due and your streak; the app hands these to its widget on your device.
When you share a deck, FlipStudy creates a .flipstudy file on your device and it goes wherever you send it using the iOS share sheet. We are not involved and receive no copy.
FlipStudy Pro is an optional one-time in-app purchase that unlocks Type a Subject, Scan a Page, and definitions. It is made through Apple's App Store. Apple handles the payment, including Ask to Buy, and we receive no payment details. FlipStudy checks your purchase on the device using Apple's own records.
FlipStudy asks for each one only when you first use the feature that needs it. You can turn any of them off at any time in iOS Settings.
FlipStudy contains no analytics, no third-party SDKs, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind. We do not build a profile of you and do not track you across apps or websites. There are no ads and no subscriptions; the only purchase is the optional FlipStudy Pro.
FlipStudy is made for students. We do not collect personal information from anyone, including children, and FlipStudy sends nothing to us. A cloud translator is only ever a parent's choice: it sits behind the Grown-Up Check, uses the parent's own Google or Microsoft key, and what it sends is covered by Google's or Microsoft's privacy policy. FlipStudy also asks children to check with a grown-up before buying FlipStudy Pro.
Your decks live on your device and, when signed in to iCloud, in your own private iCloud, so you are always in control. You can delete any deck in the app. Deleting the app removes its data from the device; to remove synced copies, delete them from your iCloud storage. A cloud translation key stays in the iPhone's Keychain until you clear it in Settings. We hold nothing to delete, because we never had it.
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page and post the new version here.
